See Neumann, Collector’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution, P.118 #6 for a similar example, where he notes that a large number of these have been found at Revolutionary War campsites. They were used as utility knives, to construct blinds from which snipers shot British soldiers in formation and weapons as needed. This example is 15 5/8" overall with its original turned wood grip which is textured with a red hot file for better purchase, now worn smooth. Dark blade with original surface intact.
