From the Niger expedition of 1886. Leather, 7 1/2" x 8 1/2" with triple braided shoulder cord. Two stitched inner pockets. The flap finely stitched in abstract animal and other figures including a musket. Beautifully made and well preserved. Ex: Christie's, London, 1988. The Hausa practiced slavery historically and still do today, though it was made illegal in 1960.
