Cane haft encrusted in old grape colored pigment. Slender black palm wood point with two clusters of annular barbs. Basket weave socket above split cane wrap. 51” length with the point removable for transport. Early example, possibly pre-contact. Whalers visited the islands during the 18th century trading for provisions. In the 19th century, many island inhabitants were kidnapped for forced labor in Australia.
