Fine Zulu Beaded Snuff Container

$355.00

Zulu Wars period C.1875. 5" height. The body made from a gourd encased in a matrix of blue, white and red trade beads. The spout with a string and internal stopper. Bead work entirely intact as it almost surely was brought back by a British officer and displayed in a regimental headquarters or his home. Sharing snuff was a bonding ritual among Zulu warriors. Some Zulu knobkerries (war clubs) were made with a shallow dished reservoir for that purpose.
