BURMESE LACQUERWORK BOWL

19th century, 7 1/4” diameter and 3” height. The core made of woven basket work probably split care. The surface lacquered over in several coats producing a hard waterproof finish. The outside decorated in a multi-technique with scenes of courtesans alternating with fierce demonic deities. The background applied and detailed with tamping and line work and the subjects painted over in red. Wear to the edge and crackling to the bottom. The decoration is virtually unblemished.
