Forged iron 3 3/8” greatest dimension. 3/3 nail holes survived through the early Medieval period. The plate-shaped to the face of the donkey’s hoof, as with a horse shoe, with a center opening. Excellent preservation. There is some disagreement about the invention of the horseshoe with a minority opinion that it was the Druids, however, historians largely agree that it was the Romans, and this is among the earliest.
