8 ¼” length plus the wrist strap. Commercially produced with lead weight terminal, and flexible shaft covered in braided leather. Used by saloon keepers and criminals, particularly in waterfront areas. Also used as “starters” by ships officers who would prod seamen into action while at the same time, being armed against retaliation. Corporal punishment including caning and flogging was used in the British Navy until 1879. Honest wear from use.
