Brass hilt with dished circular guard, evolved from the cup hilt. The cup edges thickened and describing the double shells of later evolution. Large ring guards and short swelled quillons. Olive shaped pommel with banded decoration repeated on the quillon block.  Wire wrapped grip with banded ferrules. 28 ¾” diamond section rapier blade with deeply grooved forte marked TOMAS AIALA / EN TOLEDO. Dating to the period of Spanish colonial expansion, treasure ships and the piracy they attracted. Its proportions suggests that it was intended for shipboard use.
