Zulu Wars period C.1870s. Regional variation carried by a convert warrior captured in battle. 22” length. Made from the heartwood with contrasting sapwood surround in the classic Zulu taste. Pointed egg shaped head on integral cylindrical haft. Good patina with light surface encrustation. These war clubs demonstrate a variety of styles which descended from the cultures of defeated enemy who were given the choice of enlisting in the Zulu ranks or death. The majority of Zulu ranks consisted of those warriors.
