WORCESTER BOWL C.1783-92

$245.00

4 5/8” diameter, deep form with shanked body. Harebell or Scottish blue bell pattern. Complementary borders in and out with sunburst in the well. The bottom with pattern mark under glaze. This example with a 19th century staple repair as used by museums for the rarest of ceramics. A 2” x 2 ¼” piece broken and perfectly restored with copper staples. As both the ceramic and wire are completely rigid, the greatest precision was required in making the repair. Seldom found outside museums, the difficulty and level of professionalism required speaks to the esteem with which this bowl was held in the 19th century. Today, it is the repair itself which distinguishes this example.
