VIKING PROTECTIVE BROOCH NECKLACE, 10th CENTURY AD

$240.00

Silvered bronze, over 1 3/8” diameter. 5.2mm width band with alternate radial and swelled motifs. The swelled motif likely representing the shaking hands (dexiosis) which is known in European art for at least two millennia. Among Vikings, it was a borrowed artistic symbol probably from the Levant or North Africa. Notched for its cross pin which is intact. Surface textured from burial. Professionally refurbished with the pure silver overlay restored, on a modern Sterling silver mounted polished leather neck cord. Jewelry gift boxed with certification of authenticity. Rare motif.

Item ID: A4790
