Viking Horseshoe, 10th-11th Century AD

Iron, 4 5/8" height. Small size for the Icelandic pony. Broad plate in the Medieval form with 10 nail configuration. Six nails of "fiddle key" form remaining. The nails project below the plate and so the horse stands on the nails, not the shoe. The shoe is complete without significant wear for that reason. Exceptional for form and preservation. Professionally conserved excavated condition
