The sword carried by colonels, lieutenant colonels and majors during the Civil War and Indian Wars. Standard pattern, Peterson #121. Hilt well chased and detailed in deep relief. The forward quillon is a whistle for signaling, a rarely found custom feature. Wire wrapped black leather covered grip. 30 1/4” d.e. blade decorated 2/3 its length with military, patriotic and foliate motifs. The forte with THE M C LILLEY CO COLUMBUS O, dating it to 1882 and after, the Indian Wars, Western Frontier period . The iron scabbard with surfaced textured dark brown patina. Brass suspension mounts.
