US NAVAL OFFICER’S SWORD MODEL 1852

$850.00
One of a pair descended from a well-recorded Naval Officer (surgeon).  Both standard pattern, Peterson #138. He is listed in Military Surgeon: Journal of the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. 1906 and again in 1915 and 1929. He is also listed in the Register of the Commissioned and Warrant Officers of the United States Navy 1936. Thus describing a career that spanned from the redevelopment of the Navy to the mighty steam battleships which culminated in the Great White Fleet of 1907-9. During the period, dominance at sea meant world power, and the US Navy met the challenge, famously demonstrated in the Spanish-American War. And continuing through World War I and into the days of preparation for World War II. This example was sold by Oehn & Co Baltimore MD which appears to be unrecorded. The blade is decorated 2/3 its length in Naval and patriotic motifs including a panel with the officer’s name. It is complete with its original sword knot and scabbard and would predate 1906.
