US 1860 PATTERN CAVALRY SABER

$775.00
Civil War import produced in Solingen Germany by J E Bleckman and bearing the bow maker’s mark on the blade. (One source indicates that Bleckman swords were used primarily by the Confederacy, but we have been unable to verify that.)  34 ¼” broad fullered blade marked as indicated with smooth gray patina. Brass hilt with surface verdigris and mottled patina. Wire wrapped dry leather covered grip. Iron scabbard with brown patina and a uniform oxidation speckles.  One source indicates that Bleckman swords were used primarily by the Confederacy. While we have not been unable to verify that, the condition of this example supports that origin as many Confederate weapons were secreted in barns and house walls in the belief that the South would rise again and they would be needed.  Those storage conditions have given them an identifiable patina and character, seen here.
