Type which served extensively in the Civil War as the military was comprised to a great extent of state militias. 25 3/4" straight d.e. blade finely decorated with foliage and arms splay one side, Indian princess and crossed arrows the other. The base with fine cursive W H Horstman & Sons / Philadelphia. Brass hilt with plumed helmet pommel. Fine reeded bone grip with single shallow surface flake. Original scabbard complete. The mounts with a few dings and the leather surface worn. Rarely encountered with military motifs and pedigree maker. Classic Civil War example as used by both sides. The Indian PrincessåÊwith known Southern usage.
