16 ½” blade with broad concave fullers, made from a sword blade, reduced in length and reshaped. Such conversions were common in the South when we first visited in the 1950s. This example has a turned wood grip with an iron ferrule, secured with a nut. Untouched farm/plantation condition with old stable raised rusting. Used for harvesting sugar cane which was a popular crop in the deep south.
