SUPERB VIKING SHIELD RING, 9TH-11TH CENTURY AD, SIZE 9 ½

Gilt bronze, a little oversized 9 ½ with a 3.0mm low rounded face band slightly flared at the shoulders. Oval shield shaped bezel, just under 7/8” (0.85”) maximum dimension. The surface with a cross formed of rounded nubs. The beam terminals with double nubs. The inner angles with raised triangles. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored. The Christian cross was used frequently as a decoration in Viking art well before their conversion to Christianity in the later 11th century. The best of these we’ve seen with dramatic high-relief decoration. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
