Gilt hilt with symmetrical thickened edge shell guards and large supporting rings. Copper and brass wire wrapped grip. 33” diamond section blade with deep fuller to the forte, inscribed S A G U M xx E L xx V I E G O. The tang within the guard encased in a gilt sheath. The gold strong and bright with slight rubbing as expected. The blade excellent. Period of the War of Spanish Succession (1701-1714) and probably the sword of a Spanish military officer.
