SPANISH RENAISSANCE PENDANT NECKLACE 16TH CENTURY

$220.00

The period of the Spanish Inquisition. Bronze, just under 1” height finely sculpted as a man’s face, presumably Jesus in His agony. The pendant is oriented with the head upside down so that it can be lifted and kissed by the wearer as was the custom with religious objects and relics. Such a gesture of faith would have been significant during that period of purging of the “heretics”. Fine rich glossy patina. Suspended on a gilt sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
