SPANISH OR ITALIAN DUELING RAPIER, EARLY 18th CENTURY

$1,950.00
36” flattened diamond section blade, double fullered at the forte and crisply inscribed with the maker’s name, JOHANNIS COLL twice and IN SOLINGEN opposite, twice. The blade retains most of its original blued finish. Gilt hilt with turned edge guard integral with the crossguard. See European Swords and Armour, Oakeshott, Pl.21 example B for a comparable example with a double fullered blade, identified as Spanish C.1710. The guard and pommel retain much original fire gilt gold. Original wire wrapped grip. Evidence of use includes four major strikes to the left side of the cup with results as imaged. Those damages are clearly from blood dueling and attest to the violent history of this weapon.
