SPANISH FOLDING KNIFE, NAVAJA, 19TH CENTURY

$475.00

Large, 14” opened. Elegant 6 ½” lock back blade with a dropped point, with maker’s mark MINGLAN to the left side. That mark references Paris maker (Edward) Mongin who produced knives of this type for the Spanish market. See Armas Blancas en Espana, p.126 for an example. This knife was made in Spain with the mark for the benefit of marginally literate buyers. Horn grip scales with brass star pivot mounts. Sound and tight with minor surface degradation to the horn as expected.
