Probably Burmese, though the form was used in Cambodia and Thailand as well. Wood grip of slightly waisted form with the crested pommel. Two-piece wood scabbard with its five iron securing bands intact. 5 3/4" s.e. blade of fine form. Wedge section with acutely angled point and broad back fuller. 19th-century colonial, showing English influence. Britain colonized Burma following its defeat in 1824. As in India, colonization brought many benefits including the railroad. Things English were considered superior and emulated by native craftsmen.
