Scottish Pressed Horn Powder Flask. 17th Century

$875.00
7 3/4" length. Skillfully crafted with the thickened spout cut in hound's tooth patterns and thickened butt. Flat sides and the edges unusually ridged. Wood base. Stopper lacking. Decorated both sides in iconic Scottish compass work. Very dark patina with noticeable wear and significant surface encrustation. Probably secreted, perhaps for centuries as were many early Scottish weapons and accessories, against the British. Lying on a beam in the upper reaches of a barn could explain its condition. Striking historic character and probably served through the '89 and '96 Rebellions.
