The Herodian Period. Identified as Loeschcke type 1A. Depressed concentric line well with raised figure of a gladiator in crested helmet with shield and sword. See Met Museum for another of this series in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, also with a gladiator figure. The notes state that as here, the gladiators are unusually shown left handed. Worn with remnants of black polished finish.
