Just under 1” (0.90”) length. Arched body and fan tail. The head with open mouth, protruding nose and rudimentary eyes.  Dolphins were both revered and feared by Romans and often depicted with vicious toothy mouths. Numerous examples of this image are preserved, with a significant number in mosaics, many with Cupid astride the dolphin. Well modeled and excellent preservation with surface texture from burial. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored on an 18” gilt sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
