ROMAN CHRISTIAN RING, 2nd-4TH CENTURY AD, SIZE 7 1/2

$275.00

The period of persecution and practice in the catacombs. This ring also is an example of the clandestine practice of Christianity. Size, 7 ½ with rounded face 2.6mm band. The oval bezel is inscribed with what superficially resembles a Zoroastrianism fire altar scene (see Ancient Rings, Pollio, p.53) but the vertical column altar is in fact, a cross flanked by two worshipers. The core of persecution, which declined after Nero, was the capitol. Tolerance varied in outlying areas. In some areas this ring might have been worn openly while in others it would have been concealed from all but closest confidants. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored, for modern wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
