REVOLUTIONARY WAR AMERICAN PIKE C.1775-83

$345.00
For the first two years of the Revolution, American forces were dramatically short of weapons. As a result, a great many went to war equipped with knives and improvised spears. This is such a spear, made by a blacksmith and carried by a patriot. It is 12 7/8” in length with a medially ridged leaf shaped point on a lapped seam conical socket, made separate from the point and retaining remnants of its original wood haft. The socket is secured to the wood with a nail and the haft appears to have been hacked off with a hatchet. Quite crisp throughout with some forged hammer marks and smooth brown patina. See Swords and Blades of the American Revolution, Neumann, #127.PA-#130.PA for other examples.
