RARE ROMAN RING CASTING , 2ND-4TH CENTURY AD

$165.00
This is a Roman ring, evidently lost in the production process, cast, and never finished. It is bronze, about 1 1/8" in height, and would have been finished to about size 9 ¾. The band is ridged and the bezel is a stepped oval. The base has the Roman lug. The mold marks are clear and interestingly, noticeably off-center. The banded decoration would have been tool detailed and the bezel incised with a design or not. The band has a defect from casting and it was probably lost on its way to being remelted with the scrap. An amazing insight into the manufacturing process, nearly 2000 years ago!
