RARE ROMAN LEGIONARIES JAVELIN, 200-350 AD

$415.00
Forged iron, over 4 ¼” length with medially ridged leaf shape point as used on the long spear, pilum. Swelled conical shaped socket with its securing pin which is interestingly, over long, indicating that it had an additional function, perhaps acting as a barb. Accounts of javelin use vary. It is stated that each legionary carried two, also that chariots were armed with 5 and 7. These were used at close range, thrust, not thrown. Sound excavated condition with loss to the socket.
