4 5/8” length with pyramidal point and conical socket, waisted transition and conical socket pierced for a securing pin. The ballista was essentially a large mounted crossbow operated by specially trained infantry called Ballistarii. They were highly accurate and and delivered massive energy on impact. It was used to great effect in the conquering of Gaul, which included present day France where this example was found. As well, it was instrumental in the conquest of Britain. Professionally conserved.
