RARE KINGSMILL ISLANDS SHARK’S TOOTH CLUB

$650.00

Pre-contact. 75” length, Straight tapering palm wood shaft mounted with three spines half its length, each composed of a row of shark’s teeth in graduated sizes lashed to flanking base bars with sennit. Each tooth with a hole laboriously drilled through which the lash passes. Short cloth covered grip to the middle and a woven split cane segment at the butt providing a grip. The wood very dry with age checks and cracks. The teeth mostly broken as usually found. As the bindings are quite well preserved, it is evident that the teeth were broken in battle. Ex: Christie's London, purchased in the 1980s.
