About 4 1/4" (4.18”) height with oval eye, the sides extended for better purchase. Wedge section bit with back angled edge. Mushroom form peen for helmet crushing. These were used both hand to hand and thrown in the battle charge. They were used to impale and destabilize wood shields. Stable excavated condition. Alemannia was a territory inhabited by Germanic peoples who successfully overthrew Roman rule. It lies in present day Bavaria. The Franks subjugated Alemannia in the sixth century, the period of this axe, in the early stages of the consolidation of what was to be the Holy Roman Empire.
