Standard pattern with brass hilt, the right shell guard engraved with Friech Wilhelms Institut the Prussian Military Medical Academy in Berlin, indicating that it was owned by a doctor. The left shell guard removed for convenience at full dress. 35 1/2"straight broad fullered blade. The first half finely decorated in scrolling foliage. The back with M NEUMANN BERLIN HOFLIEFERANT and foliage. That inscription names the retailer as supplier to the Royal Household. Neumann worked 1890 on and the Institute changed its name in 1894, thus dating this sword to 1890-94.
