PENNSYLVANIA POWDER HORN, 18TH-EARLY 19TH CENTURY

$550.00

Very likely saw service in the Revolution. 10 3/8” length, natural horn, skillfully thinned with faceted spout. Engraved with Scottish and armorial(?) symbols including splayed thistle (2 large representations) Sun God, heart and arrows, tri feather, cup, bottle and three others. The last three are incomplete as the horn base was replaced in the 19th century and the horn edge, likely insect or otherwise damaged, trimmed at that time. Good age character with expected lamination and flaking. The Scottish presence in Pennsylvania is well documented. After the ’45, many Scots faithful to the Stuarts fled Scotland and settled in Pennsylvania.
