18th-19th century. Worn on the horseman's belt to lubricate the patch for ease of loading and uniformity of discharge. Bronze, 4" height with crested hinged top and four decorative pendants to the base. Pierced side lugs for attachment to the belt. Bronze casting was perfected during the Seljuk empire and the motifs, as used here, perpetuated.
