14th-15th century. Lead sphere just over 1” in diameter flattened and depressed to provide cutting edge. Used both on the battlefield and in siege warfare. Found in Bavaria (Lautertal Valley) in the 1980s and mounted with the original brown ink label WALLBUCHSENKUGLE 15 Jh (Wall Breaching Ball, 15th century). The metal detector finds of the 1980s are now all but dried up on the market.
