Lady's Snuff Box


Late 18th century, English-made for the American market. 1 3/4" x 1" x 1/2" diminutive size for concealment in the clothing. Black lacquered with delicate pewter inlay and central escutcheon. Expected wear form use. The taking of snuff was fashionable among the elite in Colonial America and its use by women, well documented in literature and art.
