Gilt bronze hilt with crowned square and dividers of the Mason, superimposed on scrolling plume guard as found on regulation medical staff and paymaster’s swords of 1840 pattern. Chained guard and plumed helmet pommel. (Peterson #124 & #126).  Enameled gilt cross on black japanned grip. Brass scabbard with inset red cross. The 28” blade heavily rusted and coarsely cleaned with grinder marking.  Fine display as sheathed.
