Meiji Period for soup or rice. C.1900. 4 5/8" diameter, rounded body high flared foot. Matching cover with slightly conical grip matching the foot. Black body color throughout. The top decorated with gold diving crane, over conifers. The inside of the top with a conifer nut and needles. All gold decoration is true gold in a lacquer matrix. Cranes are especially auspicious, bringing long life and prosperity. Produced by the true lacquer (not paint) process which takes months of layering and drying. Additional details to the purchaser.
