Style known as a kyu gunto based on European and American patterns. Brass hilt with side guard pierced in cherry blossoms, the symbol of the Japanese Army. Considerable heavy gold overlay remaining to the guard. Wire wrapped black horn grip. Original sword knot lacking its terminal. 27 ¼” plated traditional style blade in original preservative. Slight scabbard wear to the ricasso only. Plated single suspension scabbard retains about 90% plating. Directly descended from the GI who brought it back.
