Early example which probably served in a Russo-Japanese War of 1904- as well as serving in WWII. Made less than a generation after the abolition of the Samurai class, it would have been carried by a disenfranchised Samurai or his son. Good quality hilt well detailed in deep relief and pierced foliage. About 40% gilt remaining. Wire wrapped ray skin covered grip. 27 1/4”. plated blade with broad fuller and in original preservative. Scabbard with some shallow bruises and plating excellent Fine aristocratic example.
