From a well-known group dating C.1470-90, preserved at the Armoury of the Ducal Palace Venice with other examples in private and public collections. See Boccia, Armi Bianche Italiane, plate 166. This example is evidently 19^th century made as a complement to the group which could serve for ceremonial, parade or display purposes. 37 ¾” double-edged blade with a broad recurved crossguard, the terminals pierced with diamonds. Leather-covered grip with three pairs of positioning bands, a medallion between the upper two. Squared pommel with a central wheel stud each side. Fine uniform condition and a stunning example.
