Varanasi, 19th century. Characteristic product of the enameled brass industry associated with this holiest of cities, also known as Benares and the source of the shields made by the same craftsmen. See our FNS8528. 4 ½” height with turnip form body on spread foot. Flared rim with threaded application wand with elaborate pierced floral red enameled crest with central star one side and inscription the other. Excellent for the period.
