INDIAN HUNTING SWORD

$155.00
Vintage example, 75-100 years old. 31‰۝ curved single-edged blade with false edge, decorated with foliage and animals. Made in India panel as well. Brass hilt with tiger head pommel. Brass-mounted red velvet-covered scabbard. The hilt shows a dark-age patina. Blade excellent. Swords such as this were carried by beaters in tiger hunts which originated centuries earlier with the clearances of the jungle for agricultural use. Tigers are very territorial and it was necessary to kill the tigers when clearing the land. Those hunts became a sport for the nobility and their English companions.
