HISTORIC SCOTTISH SWORD POMMEL C.1700

$550.00

From a basket hilted sword of the period of the Jacobite Rebellions of 1708, 1715 and 1719. Forged iron in the deeply reeded conical form characteristic of the basket hilted swords of the period. The front with the Jacobite rose, integrally forged from the single iron mass. The back raised with a smaller matching rose. The Jacobite rose carried on the tradition of the white rose of the House of York. Its incorporation into the pommel of a sword was not only a declaration of loyalty to the Jacobite cause, restoration of Stuarts to the throne, it was a dedication of the weapon and its owner to fight to the death in its pursuit.
