HADENDOA HOOK KNIFE

$145.00

Second half of the 19th century. 10 1/4" ridged medial d.e. blade age textured and a little irregular from hammer work as made. One-piece wood hilt with flared base and top, shows an original wire repair to a short crack. Native repairs are deemed to be evidence of originality and use and add to the value of African weapons. Probably served in the Mahdist War of 1885 where the Fuzzy Wuzzies, as the British called them, fought so valiantly that they were described as the fiercest opponents that the English had faced.
