GRECO-ROMAN TERRA COTTA FIGURE OF A HORSE 100BC-100AD

$210.00

Buff terra cotta with brown slip surface. 3 ¾” length. Mold made in two pieces as with oil lamps of the period, which fuzzed upon firing. Thick proportions with styled main and full harness. Horses were important in Roman culture and well represented in Roman art. Most were more literal representations emphasizing the power of the animal, suggesting that this example was made as a child’s toy.
