GOTHIC EUROPEAN SIDE KNIFE, 15TH CENTURY

$325.00
This fine large knife is related to the peasant short swords, hauswehr, carried in Switzerland and northern Europe (Germanic). It is 10 ½” in length with a relatively thin blade identified with fighting knives. A heavier blade in this size weapon would significantly compromise its handling characteristics.  The blade of broad wedge section with a distinct clipped point. The shape produced a point while marginally advancing the center of percussion away from the grip. In a knife fight, even slight advantages could make the difference in the effectiveness of a slash or thrust.  A fine Medieval fighting knife, well preserved, on a display easel.
