GOOD SIDE KNIFE, C.1550-1600

$415.00

8 ½” length. Forged in one piece with wedge shaped blade and integral banded bolster of evolutionary type. Tapered grip with antler grip scales secured with iron pins. The right, near complete. The left about half present. See The Collections of the Worshipful Company of Cutlers of London, page 14 for a related example. Knives such as this were carried by common men for protection in the streets. It is identified as a weapon rather than a work knife by the preservation of its edge, which would have been well worn from sharpening, had it been used for work.
